Are you plagued with leftover ham that just sits in your fridge waiting but nobody seems to eat it? Do you need to find ways to use this ham to get your children or your spouse to finish it off?My favorite thing to have in the fridge as leftovers is ham. Why? Well because you can do so many things with it that are so good.
When my husband and I are finished eating I usually take the ham and start cutting pieces away. I usually leave some meat stuck to the bone because it is difficult to get off and the bottom inch or so that never seems to be cut. I then throw that into my crockpot with enough water to cover it and then package the meat I cut off and put it in the fridge. The next morning I usually pull the ham bone out and cut the meat off of the bone, cube it up and then put it back in the crockpot, I also throw the bone back in. Then I add an assortment of beans. I personally like the black eyed ones, but I will use whatever I have on hand; navy beans, lima beans, black beans, northern beans, but I do try to avoid pinto beans because I husband is not a fan of them in his ham soup. I usually add about 1.5-2.5 cups off beans to the crockpot then I let them cook all day. Then I add pepper and salt and let them cook all day. When I am ready to eat the soup I pull the bone out and discard it then we dish up. This is a really simple recipe that can be used for any pork item. Normally I buy honey spiraled-cut hams and use that to make this. However, I do buy just a butt portion sometimes and use it directly for this and just add a Tbs of honey to the soup in the morning.
